FIXED: Nexus 9 Keeps Crashing (Android Marshmallow 6.0.1)

I love my Nexus 9, while it received some pretty bad reviews it is an amazing tablet (especially if you're upgrading from an iPad 2). While my Nexus 9 has been reliable and trustworthy for the year that I've owned it, in January Android 6.0.1 was released and my Nexus was ruined.

When I say ruined, what I mean is rendered completely useless. The tablet couldn't run for 5 minutes without crashing then instantly rebooting (using up a huge amount of battery and generating a lot of heat in the process). Googling didn't help, there were a lot of people with the same problem but no solution. Below I have listed a number of fixes that should help.

1. Uninstall Facebook and Facebook Messenger
- There was a time when the Facebook app was light and reliable, however in recent years the apps from the world's biggest social network have become bloated and slow. Since restoring my Nexus 9 I have left Facebook uninstalled (as well as messenger) and the tablet has been running smoothly for two days. Battery usage is down and there have been no more crashes.

2. Uninstall any Non-Essential Apps
- This is Google's advice. The Google Play store is full of apps that may not be optimized for Marshmallow and may not play nicely with your software or the Tegra K1 chip. Uninstalling apps will allow you to narrow down the problem. For me it was Facebook, for you it could be something else

3. Restore the Tablet
- Think of this as a last resort. If all else fails, delete everything and start again. It should be noted that it may take up to three attempts to restore the Nexus 9, sometimes it will seem to freeze on the restore screen. Walk away and leave it for a while. The tablet may reboot without having removed any of your data, if so restore it again. The Nexus may freeze on the restore process or turn off. I recommend charging to at least 50% and leaving it plugged in. Use the HTC charger that came with your tablet.

4. Return or Repair
- There have been reports of the battery failing in the Nexus 9 and replacement is the only solution. When you bought the tablet will determine which of these options are available. Amazon will let you send a tablet to one of their repair centers for up to two years after purchase. Or perhaps if someone locally does tablet repairs could replace the battery or you could do it yourself.

If this post hasn't put you off you can buy a new Nexus 9 from Amazon UK HERE
